Transforming Industries with Laser Triangulation Cameras

3D laser triangulation is a powerful technology used in various fields such as manufacturing, robotics, and quality control to create precise three-dimensional images of objects.

The process begins with the projection of a laser line onto the surface of the object being scanned. This laser line serves as a reference for measuring the object’s height profile. A camera, positioned at an angle to the laser line captures the reflected light from the object’s surface, that is the object’s height profile. As the object moves multiple height profiles are recorded sequentially and combined into a 3D image of the object. This method of 3D imaging is highly valued for its precision and efficiency, making it an essential tool in modern technology and industrial applications.

With laser triangulation defective objects can be detected early and removed from manufacturing processes for repair or recycling. The principle of laser triangulation is also used frequently in the packaging and wood industries, logistics, consumer goods, automotive and electronics production, to mention some.

This tech talk will cover the details on how laser triangulation works and also give a number of concrete examples on how those cameras provide value in the industry.
